Kirk's Praise
Dubbed the Reigning King of Urban Gospel, Kirk Franklin is a true Gospel music legend. I find this photo fascinating
because of the story behind it. Captured at the event "An Evening With Kirk Franklin", which was held at The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York, Kirk Franklin had just finished his classic song "Joy". In case you didn't know,
in 1996, Franklin's song "Joy" was recorded by Whitney Houston and the Georgia Mass Choir. Kirk franklin is known for his urban gospel songs, but "Joy" is a throwback to his older days which had a more churchy sound. After the song, a praise break started led by Jules Bartholemew on keys. Now, here is where the interesting part comes in. As the saints were shouting and musicians playing, Mr. Franklin just watched for a good moment. He didn't join in or particpate by playiing the keyboard, he seemed in awe of the whole moment. Know for his dance moves and gyrations, he just stood there for a while, before eventually kneeling down to give reference to God. I came away with a couple of takeways, Mr. Franklin seemed to be a little bit out of his element, even though the churchy "Joy", kicked off the praise break. My second one was that music affects everyone differently, you don't have to praise God like me, just praise Him, that's all He really wants.
