Alexandra Boylan talks about the message and her role in "Catching Faith"
Can you give us some insight into how "Catching Faith," came about?
My sister came on board with me as a writer, we were raised in a minister's home and had been
discussing things we wished both of us had been told when we were young women. Both of us were really
excited to get to make a film that positively portrays women, but also shows real, raw
issues that women are dealing with every day. There's pressure to be perfect and
have everyone think you're perfect, but it's okay to have a bad day and God loves you no matter what.
Tell us about your acting role in the film?
I play the lead girl's best friend in the film who turns on her when she tells on
her son for drinking. He's the star of the football team and gets caught drinking at a party, his parents decide he must honor the code of conduct and turn himself in. It was a lot of fun because I'm not like that at all in real life, so it's always fun to get to play parts that are totally opposite of who you are.
What do you attribute the success of the film to?
I think it's because people are going to see the film and they're telling their friends and family. Someone on Facebook said they saw the movie 4 times in the theatre, so I think when you make films like this, the audience is desperate for good films so
they're going go tell people.
Can you give us some insight into your dual roles of acting & creating?
I love acting but I also love creating, so I get to do both when I create a movie. I can put myself in it as a actor, but it's a little challenging if I'm acting in a scene and also running around behind the scenes making sure everything is good. So, it's definitely challenging but also rewarding.
Can you talk about the responsibility that faith-based movies have in portraying their messages?
It's a huge responsibility and you want to bring your children to these family films and not have to worry about bad language or a bad message. We're excited to get you to a film that the entire family could enjoy and then when
it's over, they can sit there and have a conversation. It's great for parents to watch these family films with their kids so they can talk about choices and consequences and how we go from there.
Where can we find "Catching Faith," and what do you want people to walk away feeling, after they view it?
You can find it at Walmart and other retailers such as iTunes, Amazon, Best Buy, Target and hopefully Redbox.
I want people to walk away with the message that life is messy and we don't always have everything together, but it's okay because God is always there with open arms ready to embrace us. God really does work everything out for the good of
those who trust and love him.
