Some of the themes that "Chasing Grace" tackles is forgiveness and grace. The film is a family thriller because it's much darker than your ordinary standard faith-based movie, but getting 4/5 Dove Awards from the the Dove Organization tells me it's safe for all families. We want people to get a good sense of forgiveness and maybe look at forgiveness differently from what you would normally look at it.
I had to wear a couple of hats to be able to get it done and that's just what it took, because I was dealing with a small amount of money. It always starts with a writer, you can't have a story without a writer, so I had to make sure that was done. A producer kind of puts the pieces together, I knew how I wanted the puzzle put together, so I had to be the producer and I had to raise the money which made me executive producer. I was going to direct it because I knew the story like the back of my hand and because I'm an actor I wanted to play the brother to the main character. A challenge I faced was, can I act and direct simultaneously and still perform at the fullest and with a good team around me, I was able to do that.
I don't think we need any more blockbusters, I think that people getting stupid rich will continue getting stupid rich and creating big glossy over-produced movies. While I still like occasional brainless 'Bubble Gum' entertainment, I do wish we had more stories of substance. I would like to see more avenues for independent artists to be able to be funded. I am slightly encouraged by a dribble of new artists coming out creating faith-based films.
